Agri-Business and Product Development

Agri-Business and Product Development, a Growing Forward initiative to increase your profitability and strengthen your competitive position.

2)      Please review Terms & Conditions.
3)      Completed applications will be accepted effective 9:00 a.m. MDT April 2, 2012.
4)      These may be submitted via fax @ 403-556-7545 or via email to Jeff.Millang@gov.ab.ca.
5)  You must submit the application form and attach a detailed project proposal identifying project overview, project outcomes, project elements and costs.
6)    Originals are to be mailed to Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development, Agriculture Grant Programs Branch 6547 Sparrow Drive, Leduc, AB T9E 7C7, Attention: Pat Stadnyk  Originals are to be received within 10 business days from original submission.
7)    Applications submitted before 9:00 a.m. MDT April 2, 2012 will not be accepted.
8)    Applications will be processed first come first processed.
NOTE: Project completion date is February 1, 2013

Program Description

 The purpose of the Growing Forward Agri-Business and Product Development Grant Program is to stimulate new investment in value added food and agri-product processing sectors. The program targets agri-businesses and producers with innovative market driven opportunities to commercialize a new product, create healthy or healthier products or expand their business.

Program Eligibility 

The Agri-Business and Product Development program is targeted at:

  • Existing or prospective Alberta agri-food processors (companies, partnerships) who are producing and marketing crop-related and/or meat value-added products.
  • Alberta producers, producer groups or value chains that use crop or livestock inputs in products that are produced in Alberta

Projects For Which Funding May Be Available

Projects under this Program must support the development of a New Product or the launch to New Market. These may include
(a)    product development;
(b)    market research and development;
(c)    labeling and packaging development; and
(d)    expanding an Agri-Business. 

Eligible Expenses may include

  •  market research, marketing plans, business studies and feasibility studies;
  • consulting or business coaching on market research, marketing plans, business studies feasibility studies and value chain development;
  • product development;
  • label and packaging design;
  • label and packaging development and production for the minimum first run quantity;
  • design of product presentation materials; and
  • in store or in market product demonstration, excluding the cost of product samples.
