Food Safety, a Growing Forward initiative to facilitate effective risk management.
The Food Safety program is designed to enhance food safety by facilitating Alberta producers’ adoption of commodity specific national on-farm food safety programs that have been technically reviewed under the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) led recognition program.
The Food Safety program is targeted at producers, horticultural packers and honey producer-graders who are Alberta tax payers and actively engaged in a crop or livestock operation with a market value of production exceeding $10,000 annually.

Payment to producers will be up to $5,000 on a funding basis of 70/30 government and applicant.
Applicants must submit a work plan and budget that outlines how the on-farm food safety program will be implemented. The applicant will be notified as to which activities are eligible for reimbursement. Upon completion of approved activities, the applicant submits a grant application form along with receipts, appropriate time sheets, and other documents relating to such costs and expenses prior to payment. To find out more about the program or to be put in touch with an ARD on-farm food safety specialist contact the Ag-Info Centre at 310-FARM.
