Water Management, a Growing Forward initiative to facilitate effective risk management.
The purpose of the Water Management program is to provide technical assistance and incentive for the creation of a Long Term Water Management Plan at the farm level. This program provides financial assistance for producers towards specified improvements identified in this plan to support water security.
The Water Management program is targeted at active producers in the province of Alberta. Any active producer with a minimum of $10,000 farm commodity production per year is eligible to apply under the program. To be eligible to obtain funding under Growing Forward, producers need to develop a Long Term Water Management Plan for their farm and provide it to ARD where it can be reviewed and approved by an ARD Water Specialist.
See Growing Forward Water Management Program Terms and Conditions
Application under the Growing Forward Water Management Program (2009-2013) consists of two phases:
A Long Term Water Management Plan must be completed by the producer and approved by an ARD Water Specialist PRIOR to undertaking any activity in order for the activity to be eligible under the Growing Forward Water Management Program.
HOWEVER, January 1, 2009 until March 31, 2010 is being considered a transition period. As such, projects completed during this period may be eligible even if the activity occurred prior to the approval of an LTWMP. An approved LTWMP and Environmental Checklist are still required. Please contact your local ARD Water Specialist to discuss your options as soon as possible or proceeding any further on your water project. Call the Ag-Info Centre at 310-FARM (3276) if you need to be referred to an ARD Water Specialist.

Review the Environmental Checklist right away and contact Water Specialist or act on it depending on its results. This must be completed, signed and submitted along with your Grant Application form. If the project you seek a grant for does not meet the requirements identified in this checklist your grant application may not be successful. Obtain the necessary approvals and permits required for your project(s) prior to beginning your project.
Producers can then proceed with the project(s) that were identified in their LTWMP.
